Painted Hand Ceremony Protocols
Ceremony will begin the morning of September 21 and continue until 4:30pm. Food will be provided. We have many amazing guests travelling from long distances so that we can hold ceremony together with the pipes, bundles, songs, and to recite our oral history & more.
What to Bring
Tobacco pouch, cloth (usually 1 meter, any colour). Also welcomed are offerings of any kind, gifts for Elders, gifts for visiting guests from out of territory. Bring cushions or blankets to sit on. As we will be seated on the floor for long periods of time, you will want to bring something comfortable. Chairs can be provided to anyone requiring them. If anyone requires additional accessibility needs please let us know in advance. The space is wheelchair accessible.
Respecting the Elders & Sacred Items
Please do not step over anything or anyone in the ceremonial space. Ceremonial leaders may have their bundles set out. We may have a cedar circle out. Be aware of where you walk.
Photography & Cell Phones
No photography, no recording devices, no cell phones permitted in the ceremonial space.
Participation & Moontime
Everyone is welcome to attend/participate in the ceremony. However, we respectfully ask that people who are on their moontime refrain from entering the ceremonial space.
Please see Grandmother Margaret Wabegijig at the Ceremony or send questions to info@paintedhandceremony2025.ca.
Seating
In this region we sit in a circle, normally men sit on one side and women on the other. Two Spirit, Trans and gender non-conforming people will have the option to sit where they see themselves. We respect all genders in the circle.
Skirts
We ask that self-identified women wear skirts. Two Spirit, Trans and gender non-conforming people can self determine if they chose to wear skirts.
